Mohammed Rafi was one of the well-known Indian playback singer and one of the greatest singer that got admired by all. he born December 24,1924 and died July 31,1980. He sang in many languages, like, Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Marathi and Telugu. His songs are very much popular in all over the India including the in this sub-continent. Along with Mukesh and Kishore Kumar, he was one of the three leading main piller of Bollywood playback singers. Mohammed Rafi was born at Kotla Sultan Singh, a town near Amritsar in Punjab. His father was Hajji Ali Mohammad, and he had 5 older brothers. Mohammed Rafi, nickname was Pheeko and he started singing by imitating chants of a fakir in his village. In 1935-36, Rafi's father moved to Lahore, and the family later shifted. Rafi learnt classical music from UstadBade Ghulam Ali Khan, Ustad Abdul Wahid Khan, Pandit Jiwanlal Matto and Firoze Nizami. One day Rafi and his brother-in-law Hameed went to attend a performance by K. L. Saigal. But for some reason the legendary singer refused to sing as there was shortage of power failure at the venue. Hameed went up and ask the organizer whether his (Rafi) could sing. And as the fortune all ready design he went up and sing at the age of 13. Rafi was noticed by the composer Shyam Sunder, who gave him an opportunity to sing in a duet Soniye nee, Heeriye nee with Zeenat Begum, in the Punjabi film Gul Baloch. Rafi established himself as the number one playback singer in Bollywood with the songs of Baiju Bawra. Between 1950 and 1970, Rafi was the most dominant singer in Bollywood. In 1948 he received silver madel from Jahurolal nahru . In 1965, he was honoured with the Padma Sri award. Rafi recorded two English albums. One of them is Pop Hits. In 2001 he was honored by Hero Honda and Stardust magazine in Mumbai "best singer of the millennium" . Being apart form this he got many filmfare awards and national awards.
